Communication with Your Dentist When You Have Fears

Communication with Your Dentist When You Have Fears

communication with your dentist when you have fearsYour dentist knows an awful lot. They know when you need help, and they know how to help you. However, your dentist is not psychic. Your dentist does not know when you are nervous or afraid,
aside from if you are sitting in their chair with tears streaming down your face.

If you are fearful of having a procedure done at the dentist’s office, make sure you communicate these fears with your dentist.

Talking with Your Dentist

The first thing you need to do is find a dentist you feel comfortable talking with. If you hold anything back from your dentist, it can leave you both feeling as though you are not having the best experience possible.

Next, you need to make sure that you ask questions as they arise. Don’t wait until the end of a procedure to ask questions. The more you know, the less fearful you likely will be. Ask a question when it pops into your head, because you are also much less likely to forget it if you ask it right away.

Finally, be honest about how you feel. If you are uncomfortable with something, say so. Your dentist can do a lot to help you get, and remain calm, but they don’t know to do it if you don’t say anything. Tell them what makes you nervous, and go from there. Go with sedation dentistry if it is an option, as at least that way, you are getting the work done you need to keep your teeth healthy.

Contact us and we will help you stay apprised of what is going on. The more you can communicate effectively with your dentist, the more you both will be able to accomplish during your visits to their office.
